Five reasons why having your home cleaned is better than therapy
Please note, this post is for comedic purposes only.
1. Therapists often see other therapists.
A few years ago, I saw a therapist for the first time. Truthfully I found the whole initial process uncomfortable, so I went in very guarded. The therapist quickly noticed my apprehension, and so to make me feel more at ease, he said, “You know, Rick, I can tell you’re feeling a bit nervous. And I want you to know that’s a perfectly normal response. If it makes you feel better, I see a therapist?”
My first thought was “Ahhhh, no? I came here for therapy in the hope that at least one of us would be mentally well!”
Imagine if you were drowning at the beach, out beyond the breakers. You’re taking in water fast, desperately struggling to stay above the surface. Suddenly you see the life guard run down to the shoreline and exclaim, “Hey, I can see you’re drowning out there, if it makes you feel better, I can’t swim either!’
At ‘Home PA’, when your shower needs cleaning, we’ll clean it for you. We don’t need to call another cleaner for advice. That’s a promise!
2. Your therapist doesn’t give you advice, they expect you to solve your own problems.
At ‘Home PA’, we won’t give you any personal advice either. We are cleaners after all. And here’s the good news! For the exact same lack of advice your therapist provides … we charge a LOT LESS.
Unlike your zero-advice therapy session, when you use our service at least you get to come home to an immaculately clean house.
Lastly, we don’t want to cast aspersions on your therapist, if indeed you are seeing one. So, let’s put it this way, if your therapist really cares about you then we suggest you politely ask them to prove it. Quietly ask them, “Are you prepared to clean my toilet?”
3. “It’s not your fault, Will. It’s not your fault” (Good Will Hunting).
Your therapist might try to tell you it’s not your fault. And let’s be honest, your therapist has an obvious incentive to say that, don’t they? It’s not a court of law, after all. Whoever you’re laying blame on can’t defend themselves. Also for a $120 an hour therapy session, there’s a good chance your therapist is always going to take your side.
Here’s the good news. At ‘Home PA’, we’ll always take your side too! If we turn up to your home and it’s a chaotic mess, we’ll happily side with you and agree that someone else did it!
4. You’re already mentally well!
Let’s face it, we all have at least one friend who tries to convince us to see their therapist. Why? Because they see a therapist! And they won’t say it once either, they’ll often say “Oh you’ve got to see my therapist, they’re the best! They’ve really turned my life around!”
Why do you always hear this from people who see a therapist? My good friend, Bill, has heart problems, and not once has he suggested I make an appointment to see his cardiologist! Why? Because he’s not a jerk!
5. Therapy is failing because “you’re not ready to do the work”.
It’s often said that the reason why therapy fails you is because you’re not ready to do the work.
Imagine if you paid us to clean your house then a few hours later you return home to see its still messy with us standing there wagging our finger at you, exclaiming: “The reason your house is messy is because you weren’t ready to do the work! Also, how would you like to pay for today’s visit, cash or credit?”
Call us unorthodox, but at ‘Home PA’ we’ll do the work for you, that’s kind of the whole point!
